The inaugural Progression Department Sports Day!
On Tuesday 16th June 2015 the first Progression Department Sports Day took place on Hackney Downs Park. The weather was delightful with sunshine and blue skies, and more than 50 students attended the event with high hopes of team success. A total of 10 teams took part in all events, the first being a tightly fought 5-a-side football competition. Sports Coordinator Steven Marshall kept a watchful eye and after two hours and thirty minutes of high octane displays of skill and agility, the two teams to make it to the final were Underdogs and Naz-1B. The final result could have gone in either team’s direction, but when the whistle blew it was Underdogs who came out as champions.
All teams involved took the lunchtime break to refuel, ready for the afternoon’s activities. These included a silly relay of traditional sports day events, a complex ball tunnel task that required focus and clear communication, and a sprint relay to pass the baton in the shortest time possible. It was in the final event that Team Prestige sped to victory and put themselves in with a fighting chance of being crowned overall winners. Despite their late flourish, the Gold Medal was eventually secured by Underdogs who had performed consistently well throughout the day. In the Silver Medal position was Naz-1B and in joint Bronze was awarded to Arsenal and Team Prestige.
Special thanks go out to all of the students who helped to set up events and offered general support throughout the day to ensure it ran smoothly. Thanks also to the staff who oversaw events, and all those who committed their time in other ways such as by holding workshops back at college.
