Create an image Hair and Beauty show
BSix Sixth Form College held their annual Hair and Beauty show on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th May. The theme this year was ‘Create an Image’ and students from each level of Hair and Beauty had a different assignment brief to work from. There was a very high standard of work in each category: Hair-Up, Pop Art, Fantasy, Historical and Avant-garde. There was real excitement in the College theatre and backstage as the students and their live models prepared for the cat-walk. The show was highlighted by a live media feed on the big screen and each act was interspersed by music performance and DJ sets from the Creative Industries’ music technology students.
Students commented that they had learnt lots of new skills and built confidence by working on models and creating their final design. They were also excited to have their work judged at the show by three judges including a professional cameraman and director who works closely with make-up artists! The prizes that were awarded were all donations from Hair and Beauty industry companies, such as GHD Hair straighteners.
Assistant Principal and judge for the day, Rebekah Westgate explained: ‘I come from a performing background myself, so I know how they were feeling before the show, a mixture of nerves and excitement! But their hard work and preparation paid off as it was a slick delivery of a creative explosion of talent across not just Hair and Beauty, but Media and Music as well. I felt privileged to be invited to contribute in this way …but it was an exceedingly tough job to pick the winners out of so much high quality!’
Hair and Beauty teacher at BSix, Gilly Church said: ‘I am overwhelmed with the dedication each student has given to this competition and it has been a joy watching them all grow in confidence, they make my job easy!’
