Desmond Oxford-bound

BSix student Desmond Asante has just learned his A Level results. He had turned his Chemistry grade from a B to an A and his Further Maths from an A to an A*. He also achieved a Merit on the Maths extension award which someone described as a “maths beyond maths qualification.”

The Further Maths grade has opened a special door for Desmond: he now goes off to study Maths at St. Peter’s College University of Oxford in the autumn.

While at the College, Desmond and his family lived in Clapton, the home of BSix. His sister Lawrencia Amankwah has also just graduated with triple Distinction* in BTEC Level 3 IT.

While at BSix Desmond made a major contribution to, and fully participated in, the wider life of the College. He attended the Hackney University Extension programme, including Easter and summer schools. He undertook voluntary mentoring and tutoring of Maths students and ran sessions preparing students for university entrance tests.

“At moments like these we always have two feelings,” explains BSix Principal Ken Warman on behalf of the whole college ”One is of sadness because Desmond is leaving us and he will be sorely missed. The other is one of excitement and happiness that he is going on to the next stage of his career, namely, the amazing opportunity to study at Oxford University. Aspire Study Achieve!”
