Business is the most relevant subject that you can study at college. The average person spends roughly 45 years in employment so having an understanding of the business world is vital.
The aim of the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business course is to provide you with an in-depth understanding of how businesses work and how they affect the world around them. The course also aims to equip you with the key skills you will require to succeed in employment or to progress on to a more advanced course – usually a BA (Hons) degree in a business related subject.

These units give a wide perspective on the business environment and cover aspects relevant to all progression opportunities. Throughout each unit your teachers will support you in developing your knowledge and understanding of the different concepts and theories related to each topic. They will also help you develop the key skills you will need to perform a range of business related tasks. Assessment for this course is 100% coursework. You will be assessed in a variety of ways including; written reports, posters, individual and group presentations, role plays and projects.
Students who do not yet have a GCSE grade C in both English and Maths will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and/or Maths – an essential requirement for future applications to enrol on to a degree course!
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business gives you the opportunity to achieve the equivalent of three (3) A Level grades. For example. Three Distinctions on this BTEC course is the equivalent of three grade A’s at A Level.
On successful completion of this course you may be able to:
- Enrol on a university degree course of your choice – most students choose to enrol on a business related degree course at university such as Accounting and Finance, Banking, Human Resources Management, Events Management or Marketing.
- Enrol on a business apprenticeship – some students choose accounting, finance or marketing apprenticeships
- Enter into employment in the private, public or voluntary sector
Course books are required, these can be borrowed for a whole year from the library.

There are 9 full time teachers who teach on the course. Each member of the team has extensive industry and teaching experience. You will be taught by your personal tutor.
Business beyond the Classroom and Recent Events
Level 3 students with exceptional attendance are provided with a work placement. Recent placements have been at Barclays Bank, NatWest and several City based Legal firms.

As part of their assessment for Unit 18 (Managing a Business Event), students planned, organised and managed an event called "Xmas Madness". In previous years, students have elected to complete a Halloween event.
