BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma for Information Technology
Studying BTEC IT at BSix
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma for Information Technology is a full time programme of study that is the equivalent of three A Levels. Over two years you will study 18 units covering all aspects of IT –from computer programming to IT systems support, from numerical modelling with spreadsheets to website development. There is a strong emphasis on business in the IT Practitioners Diploma and some of the units are very business oriented. This course will lead to a specialism in: IT and business systems, software design and development, and computer games development. You will develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills in the fields of ICT, web design and e-commerce, data communication, and expert systems computing.

This BTEC Extended Diploma is a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspects of employment within the sector. It provides the underpinning knowledge and understanding for IT practitioners or technicians in employment who would like to obtain a Level 3 qualification.

After completing the course you will be ready for either university or employment.

‘O2 Think Big entrepreneurship event’
IT students attended an enrichment trip to the ‘O2 Think Big entrepreneurship event’ where 2 students each won a Raspberry Pi!

BSix IT Alumni
BSix IT students have gone on to study various It/ Computer Science courses across the UK including some of the top Russell group universities! Local Hackney student and ex-Stoke Newington school pupil, Elliot Dodd, is in Birmingham University taking Computer Systems Engineering and Jacek Holubowicz, formerly of Gladesmore Community school in Haringey, is at Queen Marys’ University of London studying Computer Science.

At BSix IT courses are taught by teachers who have specialisms in Information Technology and Computing. They are qualified teachers with vast teaching experience from various educational institutions as well as from various countries across the world.

IT Beyond the Classroom
BTEC students and teachers bring IT to life both within and beyond the classroom. Future IT professionals are given the opportunity to go on work placement for 2 weeks working in various IT firms/departments in organisations ranging from small businesses to big companies in the city. This will give you a taste of working in the IT industry and you will gain valuable experience. Students also go on various educational trips, including bespoke university taster days throughout the year.
