BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Applied Science
Studying BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science at BSix
This is a one year course equivalent to 4 GCSE’s and is aimed at students who achieved mostly D grades at GCSE and require an additional year studying science before progressing onto advanced level. If you are more confident with coursework than exams, then this is an ideal course for you.

What will I study?
It consists of Physics, Chemistry and Biology sections organised as Units. Each unit is assessed by 4 assignments which consists of a mixture of practical work with report writing, essay writing tasks and power point presentations. Each Unit is given a final grade, either a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

This course is taught through a mixture of interactive lectures, individual and group activities, practical activities discussions and presentations. Students are expected to participate in different activities such as group and pair work, peer and self-assessment and practical experiments.

Progression:
On achieving BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science with a Merit or Distinction grade you can progress to:
BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma in Applied Science (1 year). This is the advanced level qualification. If you achieve all 9 units on this course, you would then progress to…

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science (1 year). Once this is achieved you will have the equivalent of 3 A levels. From this point, many students progress to university to study a wide range of courses ranging from Biomedical science, Business, Biochemistry, Biology, Genetics, Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Radiography, or Teaching----to name a few!
