BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science
Studying BTEC Level 3 90 credit Diploma in Applied Science at BSix

In the first year you will study the following units: Fundamentals of Science, Working in the Science Industry, Scientific investigations, Scientific practical techniques, using mathematical tools in Science, Using Statistics in Science, Physiology of Human Body Systems, Biochemistry and Biochemical Techniques, Energy Changes, Sources and Applications and Industry and Application of Organic Chemistry. On successful completion you will be awarded the 90 credit Diploma in Applied Science which is equivalent to 3 AS level.

In the second year you will study Perceptions of Science, Physiology of Human Regulation and Reproduction, Microbiological Techniques, Electric Circuits and their industrial Applications, Genetics and Genetic Engineering, Chemical Laboratory Techniques, Electronics for Science Technicians, Industrial Chemical Reactions and Chemical Periodicity and its Application. On successful completion you will be awarded the Extended Diploma in Applied Science. This is equivalent to 3 A levels.

Lessons are centred on student's contributions, practical and collaborative studies. You need to complete an assignment at the end of each learning outcome.

The course is assessed through assignments. There is a great deal of practical work and you need to be very organised, motivated and keen to find things out yourself.

Where next
Our students have progressed to university to study Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering, Physiotherapy, Biomedical Science, Oncology, Nursing, Radiography as well as to apprenticeships in the industries.

Beyond the classroom
BSix Applied Science students and teachers bring Science to life both within and beyond the classroom. Science related trips within and outside the country, field trips and taking active part in University Extension programmes and other Learning Beyond the Classroom activities (clubs, events and trips).

BSix Applied Science students have gone on to study in various universities across the UK including prestigious Russell Group universities such as Queen Marys University of London.
