Welcome to the Humanities Department – Truth and Meaning
Through the humanities we reflect on the fundamental question: What does it mean to be human? The humanities offer clues but never a complete answer. They reveal how people have tried to make moral, spiritual, and intellectual sense of a world where irrationality, despair, loneliness, and death are as conspicuous as birth, friendship, hope, and reason…
The Humanities department at BSiX is proud of its incredible diversity. Our wide array of subjects is testament to our commitment to the comprehensive ideal, where valuable knowledge and skills can be found across all of the subjects that we offer.
The humanities subjects are linked together because they are all about human beings. How they live, how they work together, how they think, how they behave, their culture, values, beliefs, ideas and past. For this reason we are striving to make interdisciplinary skills central to what we do, and consider ourselves to be one of the most inclusive departments in the country, always seeking to tap into the vast wealth of knowledge and experience that our students’ bring to the classroom. This is an exceptional context to study in.
In addition to our experienced teachers who are specialists in their fields, the department deploys a Senior Tutor, Teaching Fellow and Student Achievement Officer to ensure our commitment to all students, whatever their starting points, leads to significant academic progress.
